Usagi Pan Review: Japanese Bakery Cafe Offering Contemporary Japanese Sweets & Savouries
Usagi Pan bounces to Star Vista, Buona Vista, offering a wide range of baked goods, sweets, and savoury dishes. You might find the brand name familiar, their sister store, Cafe Usagi Tokyo, opened in Suntec City, back in April 2023. One of the Usagi brand signature items, Mochi Skin ice-cream, can also be enjoyed at Usagi Pan. In addition, they have added savoury options such as pasta, fries, and breakfast sets to their menu. If you happen to be in the vicinity of Buona Vista, Usagi Pan is a must-try cafe.
Baked Goods
Usagi Pan boasts a wide range of pastries, from sweet to savoury, including Almond Strawberry Chocolate ($5.40), Kougin Amann with Rudy Choco & Berries ($5.50), Sausage Danish ($5.50) and Croque-Monsieur ($4.50). Our favourite pastry was Usagi Pan's signature, the Matcha Red Bean Mochi Croissant ($5.90). The contrasting textures of the mochi and croissant work well together, and the mild sweetness from the red bean paste binds everything perfectly.
Introducing the star of the show, the Usagi Bread! Do not miss out on the cute Usagi-shaped fluffy milk bread loaves with different flavours like chocolate chip and raisin walnut.
Sweets
At Usagi Pan you can enjoy a unique variety of delightful tarts ($8.00 each), such as the Mini Goma Peanut Tart, Mini Pistachio Hazelnut Tart, and Mini Melon Tart, which are perfect accompaniments to your coffee or tea. Another signature of Usagi Pan is the Usagi Yuzu Cheesecake ($9.80). It features a light cheesecake bunny on a biscuit base with a subtle citrus yuzu flavour.
You can also find a range of Japanese Flavoured Handcrafted Ice Cream (starting from $5), like Matcha and Black Sesame. Pair it with their Mochi Waffles ($8.50) or the classic Original Waffle ($6.50) which can be enjoyed with your choice of Kuromitsu or maple syrup. If you find the waffles a bit too filling, we recommend getting the Mochi Skin add-on for just $1.
They also have a new dessert exclusively available at Usagi Pan, featuring the Mont Blanc ($7.80). It stars a chestnut and sweet potato cream on their handcrafted vanilla ice cream.
Do not miss out on their freshly made Fruit Daifuku ($6.90) crafted with house-made red bean paste and Japanese fruits like strawberries and shine muscat.
Savouries
If you are craving for more than pastries or desserts, Usagi Pan has you covered! They offer light bites like the Bonito Fries with Mentaiko Mayo ($8.80) and Seaweed Fries with Wasabi Mayo ($8.80) or substantial All Day Breakfast such as the Usagi All Day Breakfast [Drinks Set ($19.80) / À-la-carte ($16.80)], comes with Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, and Yuzu Ponzu Dressing salad, and Soup All Day Breakfast [Drinks Set ($19.80) / À-la-carte ($16.80)] starring Hokkaido White Cream Stew and Yuzu Ponzu Dressing Salad. Each meal comes with a choice of waffles or a croissant. Those getting the Drinks Set can choose from Coffee (Cafe Latte, Americano, Cappuccino, Flat White) or Tea Pot (Sencha, Hojicha, Genmaicha).
Drinks
Cool down with Usagi Pan's Milkshakes ($13.80), available in Chocolate, Matcha, and Hojicha. Each flavour is topped with unique toppings, creating an indulgent and refreshing treat that is not too sweet and perfect for hot days.
In addition to the milkshakes, Usagi Pan also offers a variety of coffee and tea. You can choose from hot and cold brew tea options in traditional black teapots with a minimalistic Japanese design. The tea menu includes classic options, such as Sencha, Hojicha, and Genmaicha, and more unique tea blends, such as Lavender Sencha, Rose Sencha, Lavender Hojicha, and Rose Hojicha.
Final Thoughts
Usagi Pan in Buona Vista offers a diverse menu, from delectable pastries like Matcha Red Bean Mochi Croissant to delightful sweets such as Usagi Yuzu Cheesecake. Their savouries selection, including Uni Cream Pasta and Crab Tomato Sauce Pasta, is equally impressive. Kudos to Creative Director Yuka Shigeno and Co-founder Artini for bringing simple yet delicious Japanese flavours to Buona Vista. A visit to Usagi Pan promises a delightful experience for pastry lovers and cafe hoppers alike.
